One of the most commonly used gadget these days, an alarm clock also had its origin in ancient Greece. Yes, in due course of time and with the proper sophistication of technology, the alarm clock went through a number of changes from a mechanical alarm to the modern gadgets like cell phone, which come with inbuilt alarm. But the first of alarms used by ancient Greeks were nothing like today. They used to integrate mechanism to time the alarm which would sound off delicate water organs or pebbles into drums.

Mr. Beka Gogsadze
Bagdati branch, Imereti Region

Charles Babbage, an English mechanical engineer and polymath, originated the concept of a programmable computer. Considered the "father of the computer", he conceptualised and invented the first mechanical computer in the early 19th century. The principle of the modern computer was first described by computer scientist Alan Turing, who set out the idea in his seminal 1936 paper, On Computable Numbers.

Mr. Giorgi Darejanishvili
Telavi branch of Inventors club of Georgia

New scientific or technical idea, and the means of its embodiment or accomplishment. To be patentable, an invention must be novel, have utility, and be non-obvious. To be called an invention, an idea only needs to be proven as workable. But to be called an innovation, it must also be replicable at an economical cost, and must satisfy a specific need. That's why only a few inventions lead to innovations because not all of them are economically feasible.

A strategy is nothing more than a commitment to a set of coherent, mutually reinforcing policies or behaviors aimed at achieving a specific competitive goal. Good strategies promote alignment among diverse groups within an organization, clarify objectives and priorities, and help focus efforts around them.

Mr. Levan Arabuli
Tianeti branch, Mtskheta Mtianeti Region

Aristotle gave the idea of earth being a globe. He also classified animals and if often referred to as father of zoology. Theophrastus was the first botanist, we know of in written history. The pythagoreans not only made the earliest of advances in philosophy and geometry, they also proposed the heliocentric hypothesis with the earth revolving around sun and not the other way around as believed at that time. This idea was so ahead in time that it was disregarded as blasphemy. Archimedes discovered that submerging a solid object will displace an amount of liquid that matches the object’s weight. The Greeks had so much so influence in the early concepts of science, that most symbols often used in physics and higher math equations are derived from Greek alphabet.

Mr. Ilia Atchaidze
Akhmeta, Kakheti region

Ask a lot of questions when choosing an invention firm. Firms are required by law to disclose how many inventions it has evaluated, how many of those received negative or positive evaluations, the total number of clients the firm has, how many of those clients received a net profit after the promoter’s services and how many have had their inventions licensed through the promoter’s services. If the firm is reluctant to answer these questions, avoid them.

Mr. Levani Dekanozishvili
Akhmeta district, Kakheti Region

"Understand your users. You can envision the wealth created by a startup as a rectangle, where one side is the number of users and the other is how much you improve their lives. The second dimension is the one you have most control over. And indeed, the growth in the first will be driven by how well you do in the second. As in science, the hard part is not answering questions but asking them: the hard part is seeing something new that users lack. The better you understand them the better the odds of doing that. That's why so many successful startups make something the founders needed."

- Paul Graham

Mrs. Tata Rigishvili
Tianeti branch, Inventors club of Georgia

It makes you wonder what chance the rest of us have.  We all like to think of ourselves as innovative and agile, but when our core beliefs are called into question, the cards are stacked against us.  Our brain chemistry, social networks and even our basic instinct for survival will resist the change

Mr. Shamil Tvalabeishvili
Vani District, Imereti Region

Mr. Aleksi Natatralashvili
Dedoplistskaro District

"Whoever invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof may obtain a patent therefor, subject to the conditions and requirements of this title." 35 U.S.C. 101. To be patent eligible subject matter, an invention must meet two criteria. First, it must fall within one of the four statutory categories of acceptable subject matter: process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter. Second, it must not be directed to subject matter encompassing a judicially recognized exception: laws of nature, physical phenomena, and abstract ideas.

Mr. Giorgi Shishniashvili
Gurjaani district, Kakheti region

During the examination of a patent application, the examiner tries to find out if that invention has already been invented by another person. If so, the patent application will be returned to the applicant to be narrowed or modified. If not, the examiner will bring out the PHOSITA test to check if that invention is so obvious that people in the trade will invent it with or without patent applicant's efforts. In the end, if the examiner can not discover a piece of prior art that may lead the PHOSITA to the invention, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required by statute to award that applicant a patent.

Mr. Davit Nadaraia
Tbilisi central branch of
Inventors club of Georgia

When you imagine inventors, you probably picture a lone genius in a laboratory concocting brilliant devices, experimenting and redesigning until some concept or contraption works perfectly. At that point, the new invention is unveiled to the world, a stunning piece of new technology that instantly changes everything.

Mr. Davit Mamulashvili
Central branch of Inventors club of Georgia

In line with the commitment taken in the Innovation Union, the Commission asked the European Design Leadership Board (EDLB), a group of 15 experts from industry, SMEs, national and regional innovation agencies and the academic world, to provide recommendations on how to enhance the role of design in innovation policy in Europe at the national, regional or local level and to develop a joint vision, priorities and actions, and thenceforth to intergrate design as a part of innovation policies in Europe.

Mr. Giga Chikvinidze
Bagdati, Imereti region

Sure, your idea works perfectly in theory. It's not until you start physically creating it that you'll encounter flaws in your thinking. That's why another great reason to develop a prototype is to test the functionality of your idea. You'll never know the design issues and challenges until you begin actually taking your idea from theory to reality.

Mr. Giorgi Bilonashvili

Ms. Lana Arabuli
Representative of Inventors club in the Athens, Greece

Just having an “IDEA” is worthless, you need to have proof of when you came up with the invention ideas. Write down everything you can think of that relates to your invention, from what it is and how it works to how you'll make and market it. This is the first step to patent your idea and keeping it from being stolen. You've probably heard about writing your idea down and mailing it to yourself in a sealed envelope so you have dated proof of your invention's conception. So, do it immediately.

Mr. Aleksandre Pilauri
Tianeti branch, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region.

An invention must be patentable subject matter, it must be useful, it has to be novel and it must be non-obvious.  If you satisfy these four substantive patentability requirements you are entitled to a patent on your invention. If you can describe your idea with enough specificity you no longer have an idea it is already - INVENTION, and go ahead to success.
